제주특별자치도 자치경찰단은 25일 서귀포시 해수욕장 인근에서 특별 음주운전 단속을 실시해 면허정지 수준의 음주운전 2건을 적발했다고 밝혔다.

특별단속은 본격적인 여름 휴가철을 앞두고 도민과 관광객을 대상으로 음주운전의 위험성 및 경각심을 높이기 위해 중문ㆍ표선 해수욕장과 성산 광치기해변 등 해수욕장 인근에서 동시에 이뤄졌다.

이날 운전 면허정지에 해당하는 혈중알코올농도 0.03% 이상 수치가 나온 운전자 2명이 적발돼 불구속 입건됐다.

강수천 서귀포지역경찰대장은 "휴가철에는 음주운전으로 인한 교통사고 위험이 높아지는 만큼, 주간과 야간을 가리지 않고 단속을 한층 강화해 소중한 생명을 지키고 사회적 비용까지 줄일 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.
